The Indian Pacific has travelled east to west and back again on the world’s longest straight rail track for more than 50 years. In 2025, the iconic rail journey introduces an extended, five-day eastbound itinerary from Perth to Sydney and new off-train experiences in WA, SA and NSW with the first passengers disembarking today.
Indian Pacific’s new Perth-Sydney itinerary now stretches to five days and four nights, offering passengers more time on board and new immersive experiences as part of parent company Journey Beyond Rail’s 2025 lineup.
Each leg of the extended itinerary offers 14 new Off-Train Experiences, which are included in the fare, in Kalgoorlie, the Nullabor, Barossa Valley, Broken Hill and the Blue Mountains.

Highlights include a tour of the Super Pit, one of Australia’s largest gold mines, and panning for gold and trying two-up at Hannans North Tourist Mine in Kalgoorlie; a paint-and-sip session at artist Pro Hart’s Broken Hill studio; a tour of Cook, a ghost town on the Nullabor; and a showcase dining experience at Seppeltsfield Estate in the Barossa.

Journey Beyond Rail Senior Guest Experience Manager Stacey Chau said the experiences are designed to tell the unique story of the land, providing a sense of place, people and culture.
“We’ve put together an amazing array of Off-Train experiences for our guests as they traverse the country from west to east,” she said.

Indian Pacific General Manager Alberto Isaza said the inaugural passengers enjoyed all-inclusive meals, fine wines, and beverages on the coast-to-coast rail journey.
“The hardest decision guests had to make was what to have for lunch and which experience to join,” he said, adding that the exclusive Seppeltsfield Estate dinner is set to become a signature experience.
