Fiji favourite Jean-Michel Cousteau Resort in Savusavu will reopen on 1 April 2026 after a multi-million-dollar, resort-wide renovation, featuring new bures designed with multi-gen families in mind.
Marking the most extensive refresh in the eco luxury property’s history, Jean-Michel Cousteau Resort’s main update is the transformation of its five-bedroom oceanfront bures into two-bedroom, two-bathroom residences.
Designed for extended families as the multi-generational travel trend continues to gain traction in the Australian market, the new accommodations feature generous indoor-outdoor living areas, extended decks, daybeds and alfresco dining for enhanced space, privacy and connection.
Additional updates include a new 83sqm ocean-facing fitness centre overlooking Savusavu Bay, revamped reception, dining and main pool areas, rethatched bures, restored landscaping and resurfaced tennis, pickleball and basketball courts.
Traditional Fijian craftsmanship has been incorporated throughout the property refresh, including magimagi (woven coconut fibre rope) detailing into the beams and pillars.

The resort has been temporarily closed since 26 January 2026 for the three-month refresh with resort team members actively involved in the renovation.
Resort General Manager Nigel Fisher said the renovation marks a meaningful evolution.

“We’ve thoughtfully enhanced the accommodations and shared spaces to better welcome extended families, while preserving the intimate, culturally immersive experience that defines Jean-Michel Cousteau Resort,” he said.
