The Design Hotels portfolio made one of its biggest expansions over the 2015/16 year with 21 new member properties joining its handpicked collection of properties.
To date, the group has over 290 properties in over 181 destinations – making it one of the most impressive collections of accommodation.
We recently spoke to the group’s Asia Pacific spokesperson who filled us in on a few new additions and renovations your clients may be keen to see and experience on their next getaway:
The Library in Koh Samui, Thailand
The beachfront hotel is adding 20 pool villas to its portfolio, giving guests the chance to swim in their own eight-metre salt water pool or simply enjoy their personal Jacuzzi.
A few villas are ready for business, however, the hotel has decided to launch all 20 rooms at the end of this year.
La Maison Champs Elysees in Paris, France
The hotel originally opened with 17 rooms designed by Maison Martin Margiela and another 40 with their own look and feel. However, hotel owners decided to refurbish the 40 rooms to have a similar aesthetic to Margiela’s 17. They’re expected to be ready by July this year.
Macakizi Hotel in Bodrum, Turkey
The Turkish property recently completed an entire refurbishment. All 74 rooms have been fitted with ceiling-to-floor glass panels so they all have sea views. The hotel also has a 10-person yacht which guests can rent and take around the island.
Phum Baitang in Siem Reap, Cambodia
Opened in November last year, Phum Baitang has been dubbed one of the more special properties in the group’s Asia Pacific portfolio. All 45 rooms are standing on stilts and different areas of the property represent different parts of the Cambodian culture.
Le Roch Hotel & Spa in Paris, France
Opening in June this year, Le Roch Hotel & Spa is made up of 37 rooms designed by Sarah Lavoine – a popular French designer. The first few months after opening are expected to be particularly popular, with fans of the designer keen to see her take on the hotel.
OddFellows On The Park in Bruntwood Park, UK
The palace has a Victorian/Gothic feel, which the owner (a plastic surgeon with a love of architecture) decided to keep in tact. He agreed to restore and repair work but refused to rip anything off the building.
11 Howard in Soho, NY
New York’s newest hotel, 11 Howard opened last month in Soho. The property had a Scandinavian minimalistic feel, but remains very New York at heart. The outside of the building has a 150×50 graffiti mural done by a group of local, young artists.
Hotel Provocateur in Berlin, Germany
Coming in October, is the 61-room property with a very burlesque feel.
Memmo Principe Real in Lisbon, Portugal
Opening in September it’s Memmo’s third hotel – all based in Portugal. This property is located in a residential area that’s full of aristocratic buildings, however, this is a brand new building.
Casa Malca in Tulum, Mexico
Casa Malca opened late last year. It has 35 rooms and is owned by an artist who uses the hotel to house different exhibitions by various artists.
