Do you have clients who want to be immersed in nature without roughing it? Seven Peaks farmstay might just be the perfect solution.
The Sunshine Coast is renowned for its long sugar-white sand beaches and surfing culture, but look to the hinterland and guests can stay in a contemporary cottage on a working farm under the craggy peaks of the Glass House Mountains where they’ll hear nothing but the sound of nature.
Checking in at Seven Peaks
Tucked up a long driveway, off a quiet rural street, Seven Peaks is roughly 40 minutes from Sunshine Coast Airport, or an 85-minute drive from Brisbane.
Here, you’ll find six self-contained cottages with views across the 13.7 hectares, where horses and cows roam, and beyond are the picturesque towering peaks of the Glass House Mountains.
Forget long queues at hotel check-ins and having to sit through an elaborate explanation about what you can and can’t do. Check-in here is as carefree as the stay. Simply pop into reception, grab your key and you’re set to go.
The cottages at Seven Peaks
Each contemporary farm cottage has a homely feel and yet it’s filled with all the mod cons you would want from a home away from home. There’s a kitchenette and large living area with floor-to-ceiling windows that provide sweeping views of the farmland.
Our cottage, Mt Tibrogargan, has a king-size bed, gas fireplace, and spacious bathroom with an oversized shower.
If you have clients who want to take the family (or share with friends), a new three-bedroom cottage, Ginger Cottage, opened in March and has a large deck and private firepit, perfect for entertaining.
Food and drink
Breakfast is a carefully curated hamper of local produce, so you can cook whenever it suits you and sit outside on the deck and soak up the postcard-worthy views.
And when the sun goes down, head to Warrior Restaurant & Bar at the Irwin family Crocodile Hunter Lodge, around a 15-minute drive away. Committed to sustainability and nutrient-rich local cuisine, expect dishes like Fraser Island crab linguine with fermented chilli and garlic, and dijon and parsley Peachester lamb cutlets.
Just make sure there’s room for the Woombye Cheese Plate, which includes its truffle triple cream brie, and world championship-winning washed rind. And if you can’t make dinner, it’s worth the pretty road trip north to Woombye Cheese Company (around 40 minutes from Seven Peaks) where you can do a cheese tasting onsite.
While up that way, around 10 kilometres north of Woombye Cheese Company is Mapleton Public House. This is a pub where cuisine has a contemporary twist. Try ‘not your average parmy’ – buttermilk fried chicken with buffalo mozzarella and prosciutto. And it’s all served with a side of stunning views, worthy of the trip alone.
Things to do at Seven Peaks
Guests will feel a world away from the bustling Mooloolaba and yet Seven Peaks is only 40 minutes or so from the coast for those who choose to head down for a surf or a swim on the famed Sunshine Coast beaches.
Onsite, they can wander the four-kilometre radius of the farm, pat the farm animals (there are horses, ducks, chickens, goats and sheep) or simply sit back with a glass of vino and soak up those pretty views. They’ll leave with a sense of calm only the hinterland can bring.
The verdict
While there is room for the family, I’d be suggesting Seven Peaks to couples looking for a romantic getaway among nature who are happy to take a drive and fill an esky with the award-winning local produce which is everywhere here in the hinterland, starting with that mouthwatering Woombye cheese.
