The Shepherd Mayfair will open on 1 September 2026 in London’s Shepherd Market with the new 82-room boutique hotel of “thoughtful design and quiet luxury” occupying a historic site within the affluent and exclusive enclave.
The Shepherd Mayfair opening gives London-bound Australians a new 82-room address in one of the city’s most storied pockets, Shepherd Market, within Mayfair of Monopoly board fame, just a short walk from Green Park and Piccadilly.
The hotel spans six floors and offers rooms and suites with three separate food and drink venues built to trade from morning coffee through to late-night cocktails.

It sits on the site of Mayfair’s oldest house, known as ‘The Cottage’, which dates back to 1618 and once housed a shepherd tending his flock. The surrounding fields later hosted the annual May Fair before developer Edward Shepherd transformed the area into the urban quarter that still carries his name.

Designed by Timothy Shepherd of studio Shepherd&, the hotel is positioned as a neighbourhood-led alternative to the grand hotels traditionally associated with Mayfair, drawing on the character of Shepherd Market and a contemporary reading of the area’s historic mansions.

That makes it a fit for clients who want a Mayfair postcode without the ceremony of the larger flagship names and value a more intimate, residential feel.

Fayre is the signature ground-floor restaurant, serving breakfast, lunch and dinner built around seasonal British produce and refined European classics.

The dining room is defined by banquette seating, dark timber panelling and a mulberry and blueberry palette with wall coverings by urban artist Adam Ellis depicting scenes from the original May Fair, from livestock markets and theatres to jugglers and games of chance.

The opening menu includes lobster and prawn brioche roll, braised beef short rib croquette, Gloucester Old Spot pork chop, beef Wellington pithivier, dry-aged steaks and a rotating selection of ‘Puddings by the Glass’ – classic desserts served in a tall glass, starting with strawberry and Champagne trifle.

Fayre joins The Lounge, a 46-seat cafe-style space with an outdoor terrace, and Teddy’s, a hidden late-night cocktail bar on the lower ground floor. All three are designed to attract locals as well as hotel guests.

The UK remains a core outbound market for Australian travellers, and London is the default first stop. A new boutique opening in Mayfair suits couples, food-focused travellers and repeat London visitors looking for something more personal than the district’s established grand hotels.

KARRYON UNPACKS: London anchors most Australian trips to the UK and Europe, so a fresh boutique name in Mayfair is one to file for clients who have stayed at the big brands. With a 2026 opening date locked in, there is a long runway for advisors to add it to next year’s European summer bookings.
