Like a massive whale in the sky the odd-looking Super Transporter, Airbus Beluga has one purpose – to transport oversized cargo.
The Airbus Beluga, also known as the Super Transporter A300-600ST, is not a passenger plane but an alien-like cargo transporter. Beluga was developed to carry sections of Airbus aircraft from different production sites around Europe.
The Super Transporters are also available for charter work and have been used to carry a variety of special loads including space station components, large and very delicate artwork, industrial machinery and entire helicopters.
The impressive plane is part of a fleet of five Beluga aircrafts. Each aircraft can carry 47 tonnes over a range of 1667 kilometers and the busy Super Transporter is doing more than 60 flights per week.
