Virgin Australia honours its accidental super-cheap airfares

A Virgin Australia technical glitch (or was it a clever marketing ploy?) has meant that Christmas has come early for some lucky travellers who managed to score some super-cheap flights to Asia and Europe.

A Virgin Australia technical glitch (or was it a clever marketing ploy?) has meant that Christmas has come early for some lucky travellers who managed to score some super-cheap flights to Asia and Europe.

There are few things as sweet as bagging a ridiculously cheap airfare to some exotic part of the world. Most of the time, this is the result of some epic sale campaign. But sometimes – rarely – an airline glitch results in prices that simply should not be.

Like what happened for a few hours early Tuesday morning, when Virgin Australia – through some kind of technical glitch – ended up pricing some of its international fares at rock-bottom prices.

We’re talking flights from Melbourne to Beijing return for $266, and Sydney to London return for $764!

The glitch was first noticed by airfare monitoring service, Scott’s Cheap Flights, who managed to take some sneaky screenshots of the uber-awesome airfares.

Speaking of yesterday’s technical pricing glitch (or was it a clever marketing plot? Hmm…), Virgin Australia had this to say to Business Insider:

“Unfortunately due to a technical glitch, some fares seen on the I Want That Flight website this morning were a bit too good to be true. We are working to have this rectified and apologise for any confusion this may have caused.”

Virgin Australia spokesperson, speaking to Business Insider.

Although the fares were obviously a mistake and unintended for public sale, Virgin Australia has confirmed it will be honouring all of the tickets that were booked during the glitch.
