KO Reviews: The Blackman Hotel, Melbourne

You don't have to be an art lover to appreciate the distinctly creative flavour of 'The Blackman' hotel in Melbourne. But we're guessing you'll definitely leave art inspired.

You don’t have to be an art lover to appreciate the distinctly creative flavour of ‘The Blackman’ hotel in Melbourne. But we’re guessing you’ll definitely leave art inspired.

One of the infamous Art Series Hotels, which dedicates each hotel to a different, contemporary Australian artist, The Blackman, is a salubrious joint, full of stylish, happy staff ready to make your stay a memorable one.

“I am a romantic painter, (but not sweet) – oh no. That’s wrong. Dreams are what you’re made of, and very often nightmares, too. A dream is quintessentially a reality when it is fulfilled.

Charles Blackman, Artist and hotel inspiration

Located in the hot spot of Melbourne’s St Kilda road, just ten minutes from the city centre, the boutique hotel displays a contemporary look and feel, brimming with high-end furniture and designs and naturally adorned with the work of Artist Charles Blackman himself.

Every design detail has been beautifully considered

Check in:

Over the years i’ve been blessed to stay in some beautiful hotels and arriving at The Blackman I was greeted with the usual efficiency I’d expect, but the clerk took it to a whole new level. Full of friendly, insider advice and passion, not just about the the hotel, but for his home city too, his welcome was infectious and already I was excited about my time here.

Even the SmartCar has had the Blackman make over…

Top that off with a welcoming cup of passionfruit tea and the discovery that I could have a smart car, hire a bike or be provided a travel card for the tram stop which was a stones throw from the front door and I was sold.

And don’t forget the lift..

This is a place where every single detail has been considered, with Blackman’s work proliferating the walls, the halls, even the elevator mirror.

It’s a unique experience. Full stop.

Add to this a bed that gives me a hint on what an angel feels like as they fall asleep in a white cloud (you can even buy their beds online), a room designed for beauty as well as function and you’ll be part of the way to experiencing what it’s like to stay in The Blackman hotel.

I stayed in a Bay Studio Suite which was extremely comfortable and had glorious views of the city, Albert Park and out over the ranges beyond. The room was whisper quiet and I even woke to see hot air balloons floating high in the sky in the morning light. Talk about a bonus.

Style never look so good

If you like to stay in uber cool places that are literally like no other, and value customer service that goes way beyond the concierge or the usual big brand properties then this hotel will definitely be your cup of tea. However you like it.

It’s also great value with superb room rates and packages all year round for everyone, including families. And yes, wifi is free!

My guess is that by the end of your stay at The Blackman you’ll have got the creative juices flowing and who knows, be ready to embark on your next adventure in one of the other Art Series Australian artist filled hotels.
