Silver Nomads – a market of opportunity for Agents in 2017

Millennials are important for future profits, Gen X are great for larger, family bookings, but it's the Silver Nomads, who often go under the radar, that are a major opportunity for Agents.

Millennials are important for future profits, Gen X are great for larger, family bookings, but it’s the Silver Nomads, who often go under the radar, that are a major opportunity for Agents.

Especially over the next 12 months it seems.

Why? Because according to a new study, people between 64 and 74 are travelling more now than ever before.

While some have mastered the use of the Internet (thanks to their children and grandchildren) and could book on their own, there’s still a large number of Silver Nomads who require the assistance and smarts of a Travel Agent.

So as the mathematics goes… ????+✈️= ??

Agents

Research released by Allianz Global Assistance (AGA) found that over the last decade the number of Silver Nomads travelling grew by 66 percent.

This figure is expected to continue growing in 2017, with around 15 percent choosing to travel to the US, 13 percent crossing the Tasman for New Zealand and 12 percent following the sun to Bali.

The study also found that seniors love to travel in groups and are open to cruising options – that’s good news since Australia has a variety of ships visiting over the wave season including the giant Ovation of the Seas.

Agents

Allianz Global Assistance General Manager Travel and Medical, John White said it’s great to see so many baby boomers heading out and experiencing the world.

He added that while “age shouldn’t hinder travel opportunities”, it does come with more caution and medical conditions, which is why Allianz recommends a full health check before heading overseas and taking out the right travel insurance policies.
