We love a feel-good story, and this one has everything we need for some warm-and-fuzzies: a reminder that good adventures make a good life, inspirational, creative thinking, and one lucky, lucky person. Yes, it’s time to announce the ANZCRO Snow Highway prize winner!
We recently invited you to tell ANZCRO, in 25 words or less, what adventures along the Snow Highway excited you most. From the stacks of entries, you all found plenty of thrills on New Zealand’s newest road trip route.
Winner, winner, après ski dinner
While it was tough to judge, ANZCRO picked Kate Walsh from Wauchope Travel in NSW as the snow-bound winner! Congrats Kate!

Kate’s entry wrote: “The thrill and chill of exploring an ice cave at Tasman Glacier, defrosting in Tekapo Springs, and the take-your-breath-away moments in between.”
We love her smooth connection of ice-capades with the bubbling hot pools of Tekapo Springs. Genius!
It’s snow joke (the incredible prize)

So where will Kate travel to in September on her prize-winning 8-night Snow Highway Adventure holiday package?
Kate won:
- 2x The Works Economy flights from Brisbane, Sydney or Melbourne to Christchurch with Air New Zealand, including 23kg checked luggage
- 2x The Works Economy flights from Queenstown to Brisbane, Sydney or Melbourne with Air New Zealand, including 23kg checked luggage
- 9 days car hire with Ezi Car Rentals in a Toyota Rav4 2WD (or similar)
- 1 night at the Sudima Christchurch Airport, in a Superior Room
- 3 nights at the Brinkley Resort, in a Studio Room
- 2-day NZ Super Pass, valid at Mt Hutt
- 2 nights in Tekapo at The Godley Resort Hotel, in a Standard Lakeview Room
- 2 nights at the Sudima Hotel Queenstown 5 Mile, in a Superior Twin Room
- 1-day NZ Super Pass, valid at Coronet Peak or the Remarkables
We don’t know if Kate has picked her plus one yet (the prize is for two!). Given that it’s valued at $5,380, we think Kate receive a fair few “just checking in” calls and emails from friends and family (and possible even us), vying for that seat alongside her.
Bluebird days await
Just because you aren’t Kate Walsh planning your après ski outfits right now doesn’t mean you can’t plan a Snow Highway road trip for yourself or help your clients get this dreamy road trip booked.
It’s hard not to be inspired by scenes like these!
Self-driving from Christchurch to Queenstown, the Snow Highway offers skiers, boarders, tobogganers, snowman makers, and lovers of après ski a chance to experience the best of New Zealand’s stellar powder.
Over the recommended eight days, road trippers will journey some of Aotearoa’s most incredible mountain roads, visiting the impressive ski fields that line the route.
Key itinerary stops are:
- Mt Hutt Only an hour from Ōtautahi Christchurch, this is the perfect start to the Snow Highway. Not only because Mt Hutt won the Best NZ Ski Resort award for the past seven years but because it has reliable snowfall, expansive runs for all skill levels, and great ski pass pricing.
- Mt Cook National Park What’s not to love? Skiers get their kicks tackling NZ’s longest ski run, while snowboarders can go heli-skiing!
- Queenstown & Wanaka The idyllic thing about the Snow Highway is that it’s not a replacement for the Queenstown and Wanaka ski field action that your clients love but a brilliant complement to it. Whether it’s the Remarkables, Coronet Peak, Cardrona, Treble Cone or all four, it’s an epic ending to an epic road trip.
