The property was formerly Le Méridien Bora Bora, a Marriott International hotel, and has undergone an extensive renovation and rebrand to The Westin – remaining within the Marriott International hotel stable of brands.

The Eco Centre and its turtle sanctuary, which opened in 2000, is still on site. Resident marine biologists teach guests about the marine life of The Islands of Tahiti.
