Brisbane has launched a new destination campaign to help boost the local visitor economy after ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred recently brought South-East Queensland tourism to a standstill.

Supported by Brisbane Economic Development Agency (BEDA) and Queensland Government, the campaign will showcase some of the city’s well-known operators and experiences.

It aims to drive visitation and help local businesses recover from cancellations and disruptions that have cost more than $68 million to date.

The ‘Brisbane Favours the Bold’ campaign extension will target travellers across Australia and New Zealand and features notable locals, including comedian Christian Hull, Traditional Custodian and Djawun Tours operator Jason Murphy and renowned chef Benny Lam.

Featured experiences include the 5-star Emporium Hotel South Bank, Benny Lam’s Hong Kong-inspired restaurant and basement dumpling bar Central, Howard Smith Wharves and Felons Brewing Co,  First Nations Djawun Tours in Moreton Bay, Riverlife’s rock climbing adventures and the NRL Magic Round.

The campaign will be further bolstered through partnerships with Virgin Australia, Expedia Group and TripAdvisor to drive bookings and help local businesses recover faster.

Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner said the campaign would drive visitation across the entire Brisbane region, including Moreton Bay, Redlands Coast, Scenic Rim, Ipswich and Logan.

Sunshine Coast has also secured a funding boost for its ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred tourism recovery efforts.

“Vibrant precincts, world-class dining and blockbuster events have helped shape Brisbane’s reputation as Australia’s lifestyle capital,” Schrinner said.

“As Tropical Cyclone Alfred approached our city, many Brisbane businesses closed their doors to help keep their staff and their customers safe, but this came at a cost.

“This campaign will continue to support local operators by highlighting the people and places that make Brisbane one of the best places in the world to live and visit,” he said.
