InterContinental Brisbane will make its debut in the Queensland capital within the iconic Harry Seidler-designed building on the Queen Street Mall in the heart of Brisbane City in late June 2025.

The reopening as InterContinental Brisbane follows the closure of Hilton Brisbane on 31 March 2025 after almost 40 years.

It is the only hotel in Australia designed by the renowned Australian Modernist architect Harry Seidler, who designed many landmark buildings across the country.

The joint venture between IHG Hotels & Resorts and ISPT (developers of the Elizabeth Street precinct where the hotel is located) will see the well-known property transform into a world-class hotel and dining destination.

ISPT’s renewed vision for this precinct integrates the hotel, Wintergarden shopping centre and the Regent Theatre into one retail, dining, entertainment and hospitality destination.

InterContinental Brisbane will incorporate the luxury brand’s hallmarks while retaining the classic features from Seidler’s original designs.

After the two-year transformation is complete, the hotel will feature 321 guestrooms, many with Brisbane cityscape views, four restaurants and bars and expansive conference and events facilities.

IHG Hotels & Resorts Director of Development, Australasia & Pacific Cameron Burke said: “We knew it would take a special property to bring our iconic InterContinental brand to life in Brisbane and are incredibly proud to partner with ISPT in support of the rejuvenation of this incredible asset and we look forward to creating an indelible beacon of hospitality for Brisbane.”

“The Brisbane hotel market, and South East Queensland region, is entering a golden era fuelled by transformative infrastructure projects, a booming tourism sector and the countdown to the 2032 Olympics.

Surrounded by verdant cliffs, crescent-shaped white beach and celestial-blue sea, the reimagined InterContinental Hayman Island Resort will immerse you in a world of five-star luxury and island wonders beyond your imagination.
