The second episode of Karryon's luxury podcast, Luxury Unpacked, hosted by Fiona Dalton is live. This week, Captain's Choice CEO Bas Bosschieter talks about the company's recreation of the iconic 'Kangaroo Route', plans to go carbon neutral and the future of luxury jet travel.

The second episode of Karryon’s luxury podcast, Luxury Unpacked, hosted by Fiona Dalton is live. This week, Captain’s Choice CEO Bas Bosschieter talks about the company’s recreation of the iconic ‘Kangaroo Route’, plans to go carbon neutral and the future of luxury jet travel.

From this year, every private jet flight with Captain’s Choice will be carbon neutral through “the purchasing of carbon credits”.

“It’s up to all operators to ensure we’re doing everything possible to minimise our footprint,” Captain’s Choice CEO Bas Bosschieter tells Luxury Unpacked host Fiona Dalton.

“It’s a commitment we’ve worked hard on with our mother company, APT, and we are very conscious of our footprint.

“One of the things we do is run flights over Antarctica, educating people about the last great wilderness. Some people think it’s not the right thing to do, but those flights are so popular that the Antarctic Science Foundation is on board because we’re educating people about what to do to ensure the survival of Antarctica, and there’s no better way than to allow people to see it.

“We understand we are going to be criticised, but if we can do everything in the background to ensure we’re carbon neutral, then I think our story of saying education is important really comes out.”

The Kangaroo Route

Next year, Captain’s Choice will follow in the footsteps of Qantas’ Kangaroo Route recreating the iconic route in a Qantas A330-300 aircraft – following an almost identical flight path as the one Qantas operated in 1947.

The Captain’s Choice ‘Pioneering Spirit of the Kangaroo Route’ will depart Sydney on 3rd February 2026 with stops in Darwin, Singapore, Kolkata, Colombo, Cairo, Toulouse, and Rome en route to London.

“We’re selling all business class cabins, but we’re only selling less than half economy, so everyone has a spare seat next to them, and the longest sector is seven hours.

“There are some extraordinary experiences along the way… so we’re having dinner at the Prime Minister’s house in Colombo… and we have dinner among The Pyramids of Giza…and our farewell will be at the Imperial War Museum Duxford under the wings of a Concorde.”

The future of luxury jet journeys

‘The need to show value for money is more important than ever and it isn’t necessarily destination driven, it’s now starting to evolve into ‘what experiences am I going to receive and what am I going to bring home to tell my children or grandchildren’.

“We used to focus heavily on destinations and add to the portfolio of countries, but the world is become smaller and now it’s more about combinations… and we’re offering alternative experiences with a historian on hand or a chef to bring those to life and give them something totally different that they weren’t expecting.”

He says smaller group travel is also increasingly important.

“People like to travel in smaller groups; they aren’t drawn to just the destination, the experiences are just as key, and the mode of transport to get them there has to be seamless.”
