Darwin has scored a hotel first, with IHG Hotels & Resorts opening voco Darwin Suites, the first voco hotel in the Northern Territory and Australia’s first voco Suites property.
The 88-suite hotel has opened on Mitchell Street in the city centre, pairing apartment-style space with the consistency of a global hotel brand. Think kitchens or kitchenettes, dedicated work areas, room to lounge, private balconies in many suites and views across the city skyline or ocean.
A Top End first for voco
The new-build property offers one- and two-bedroom suites designed for extended stays, business travellers and leisure guests who want a little more room than a standard hotel stay.
Guests can pick up locally sourced items from the lobby Marketplace to enjoy or cook in their suite, with the hotel also home to The Aviary Bar & Brasserie, serving modern Australian cuisine and regional flavours.
The Aviary Bar, near the lobby, offers cocktails, wine and other beverages, while hotel facilities include an outdoor plunge pool, 24-hour fitness centre, light-filled meeting and event space, fast Wi-Fi, smart in-room technology and elevated bathroom amenities.
A base for Darwin’s dry season buzz
Portfolio General Manager Sean DeSouza said the opening reflects the momentum building around Darwin as a destination.

The hotel’s Mitchell Street address puts guests close to Crocosaurus Cove, Darwin Entertainment Centre, the Waterfront Precinct, Mindil Beach, Cullen Bay and the city’s dining and bar scene, with access to day trips further into the Territory.
voco Darwin Suites joins the brand’s growing Australia and New Zealand portfolio, with existing properties on the Gold Coast, in Melbourne, Brisbane, the Hunter Valley, Gosford and Queenstown.
Globally, voco has now surpassed 100 open hotels.
