Virgin may have just found the perfect way to encourage those frequently flying miners to choose its services over others and it’s by giving them their own dedicated airport space.
While they may not embody your typical airline business lounge guests, miners travel so often around the country that many have earned access to special airline lounges.
They bring a relaxed air to the often upscale environments with their casual attitudes.
Virgin could be embracing the new kind of frequent flyer and accommodating to their chilled travel style by potentially opening the country’s first airport lounge completely dedicated to those in the mining and resources sector.
According to the Australian Business Traveller, the first of the lounges could open as soon as the end of this year, with Brisbane’s domestic terminal pegged to be the trial gateway.
ABT expects the airline will use the short-term cafe lounge which was set up near Gate 41 prior to the reopening of Virgin’s domestic terminal at Brisbane Airport.
Now that the 400-passenger terminal has reopened, ABT says the temporary cafe is now redundant and could be the ideal spot for the miners lounge.
Virgin Australia Chief Customer Officer, Mark Hassell told the publication that one option is to designate the space as a ‘mining and resources’ lounge.
“It could be a mining and resources opportunity for us – potentially, if those guests want a separate area.”

While miners’ cross-country travel choices are pretty much limited to Virgin or Qantas, an exclusive lounge could make Virgin more attractive to the regular flyers.
