While there may be much confusion around ‘Brexit’, there’s more clarity & understanding around the grand ‘Plexit’ (named by KARRYON) which involves Europe banning single-use plastic.

Yes, the entire continent of Europe has agreed to the charge against harmful single-use plastic by approving a ban on plastic straws, cutlery, cups, stirrers AND even, cotton buds.

The ban received a majority vote among the European Parliament this week, and will come into force by 2021, giving store owners and other plastic users two years to phase out the harmful product, The Guardian reported.

During parliament, EU members also agreed to introduce initiatives that’ll reduce the use of plastic food containers and plastic lids for hot drinks, while agreeing to ensure plastic bottles are made of 25 percent recyclable content by 2025 and 90 percent recyclable content by 2029.

Other environmentally-friendly action plans to come out of the ground-breaking meeting include finding a solution to wet wipes, which clog sewers, and placing ‘plastic labels’ on items that are made of plastic.

Frans Timmermans, Vice President of the European Commission, described the outcome of the meeting as “an important step” that’ll reduce litter and plastic pollution in oceans and seas.

“We got this, we can do this. Europe is setting new and ambitious standards, paving the way for the rest of the world.”
