A land of wild wonders and an adventure seekers paradise, Peru is home to some of the highest peaks and the deepest canyons in the world. But there ain’t no mountain high enough, and ain’t no valley low enough, to keep us from exploring Peru.

Peru is jammed packed with so many sights you’ll need to see to believe. To ensure you get the very most out of this epic destination, here’s six suggestions of the most beautiful destinations and tips on tours to make the most of your time.

 

1. TAKE A HIKE INTO HISTORY

It doesn’t need much introduction, Machu Picchu is the poster child for Peru but no matter how many travel books you read, nothing can prepare you for seeing Machu Picchu in person. Cradled between lush mountains and rivers, the ancient civilisation is a masterpiece of the Incas, and a wonder of natural beauty too.

If you are feeling active, tie up your hiking boots and take the Inca trail to get there, finishing the hike with a stunning sunrise over the lost city – or expand your Peru journey and visit Lake Titicaca and the photogenic Sacred Valley. If the altitude doesn’t take your breath away, the view will.

 

2. WEAVE YOUR WAY THROUGH AREQUIPA

3. GET WILD IN THE AMAZON

If it is it on your bucket list to see monkeys or macaws in the wild then Peru should be top of the list. The country is home to a mindblowing 20,000 species of animals and plants, thanks to the Amazon.

There’s plenty of ways to explore this lush habitat but if you are looking for a really unforgettable starting point, take a cruise along the river. You’re guaranteed to see creatures, colours, plants and places you had no idea existed.

 

4.  LIVE IT UP IN LIMA

Peru’s cities are a melting pot of colour and culture — and for delicious food, you can’t miss the buzzing capital of Lima.  Filled with colour, culture and ceviche, Lima is a gastronomical paradise.

During the day, head along to the colourful Miraflores market to pick up some fresh produce – and by night, sample ceviche and mouth-watering picarones. No matter whether street food is more your style or a fancy restaurant is your speed, treat your tummy to a trip to Lima.

 

5. SLOW YOUR ROLL IN COLCA CANYON

When you think of famous canyons, Peru’s Colca Canyon may not be the first to spring to mind. Well to that we way, Grand Canyon, eat your heart out! Colca Canyon is twice as deep, and it’s truly paradise.
