Virgin Australia is opening the international gates to Newcastle with plans to launch direct flights to Auckland, the city’s first non-stop flights to New Zealand in over 16 years.
Commencing 22 November 2018, the peak period service will run three times weekly until 17 November 2019 and will be the first international service to operate out of Newcastle Airport’s upgraded terminal.
Flights between the two cities will fly for around three hours, drastically cutting the travel time and increasing convenience for Aussies living in regional New South Wales communities.
Additionally, Virgin Australia General Manager, Network, Revenue and Alliances, Russell Shaw, believes the new service will increase travel choice for those living in and around Newcastle, while also contributing to The Greater Hunter Region’s tourism opportunities.
“With New Zealanders now able to travel direct to Newcastle and explore the region and all it has to offer including wineries, restaurants and the pristine beaches.”

Newcastle Airport Chief Executive, Dr Peter Cock, welcomed the news saying New Zealand is Newcastle’s number one unserved market.
“This seasonal flight is a huge step forward in becoming a second international gateway into NSW.”
