Every woman will tell you that there’s nothing like a little dolling up to get your spirits soaring.

In that vein, Abu Dhabi carrier Etihad has rolled out its first Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner (B787) aircraft, featuring the brand’s new livery, as it seeks to up the battle in the luxury stakes and continue its rapid growth.

The new paint work, the aesthetically pleasing ‘facets of the desert’, first appeared on the airline’s jumbo A-380 that was launched in Hamburg last week.

However, it is said that the 787-9 Dreamliner will be the first to operate with the new livery on revenue flights from 1 December. And the airline’s upgrade doesn’t stop at the paint work.

The Etihad 787-9, the first of 41 on order, will also contain eight first class suites, 28 business class seats, and 199 in economy, all reputedly trimmed with camel hide.

The total seat count of 235 is in stark contrast to the 496 found on the Jumbo A380. The A380, 10 on order, features The Residence for two, nine adjacent first class Apartments, 70 business class Studios and 415 economy seats occupying the entire main deck.

Dusseldorf and Doha will be the first Etihad destinations to be served with the 787-9 from Abu Dhabi, followed by Washington Dulles and Mumbai in the first quarter.

From June, Etihad will operate the 787-9 to Brisbane and Moscow.

The airline has identified at least 40 routes that can potentially be served with the 787-9

“With the economics of the aircraft, the 787-9 will be one that will be very, very central to our flying and future expansion,”
