From Venice to Florence, here's where you can fly to in Italy with Virgin Australia's code

Virgin Australia has extended its code share arrangement with Alitalia to add its VA code on 11 domestic flights in Italy.

Virgin Australia has extended its code share arrangement with Alitalia to add its VA code on 11 domestic flights in Italy.

The pair initially kicked off their code share agreement earlier this year, to add each other’s codes on flights from Australia to Abu Dhabi and then from Abu Dhabi onwards to Italy.

However, the updated code share arrangement unveiled this week will allow Australians to book internal flights in Italy through Virgin Australia.

So where exactly does the Virgin Australia and Alitalia code share take you?

First, consumers can book the usual Virgin Australia flights from Australia to Abu Dhabi and then travel forward onto Europe using Alitalia’s services from Abu Dhabi to Rome and Milan Malpensa.

From there, they can continue to use their Virgin Australia ticket to fly from Rome to Bari, Bologna, Catania, Florence, Genoa, Lamezia Terme, Naples, Palermo, Reggio Calabria, Turin and Venice.

According to Virgin Australia’s General Manager of Alliances, Phil Squires, the expanded relationship makes it easier for Aussies to “do business or visit friends and family in Italy”.

“Virgin Australia customers now have access to 13 codeshare destinations across Italy from our Abu Dhabi gateway, providing more opportunities to travel seamlessly, earn Velocity Points and Status Credits, and enjoy lounge access.”

On the other side of the code share, Alitalia will also codeshare on Virgin Australia services from Sydney to Adelaide, Melbourne, Perth, Ballina, Coffs Harbour, Hobart, Sunshine Coast and the Gold Coast.

Also as part of the arrangement, Virgin Australia loyalty members will earn Velocity Points and Status Credits, while Velocity Frequent Flyer members will enjoy full reciprocity across Alitalia’s network, including lounge access, priority service and an increased baggage allowances for eligible members.
