How Tigerair is creating more jobs in Brisbane

Good news for Queenslanders, Tigerair Australia is basing a third aircraft in the city and launching two new routes that will create at least 50 new jobs for locals.

A third A320 will move to Brisbane Airport from late March 2017 to facilitate two new routes between Brisbane and Perth as well as Brisbane and the Whitsunday Coast.

According to Tigerair CEO, Rob Sharp, the decision is a significant boost for Queensland tourism as well as the economy because it results in job creation, tourism expenditure and around 225,000 additional visitor seats through Brisbane per year.

Additionally, Sharp said he’s “confident” the two new services will prove to be popular with the airline’s customers and stimulate additional benefits for the destination.

“The sunshine state is an integral part of our network with over 70 percent of all Tigerair domestic services already touching Queensland.”

“That number is set to increase with all the new services announced today.”

Tigerair will be the first low cost carrier to operate between Brisbane and Perth when flights commence on 1 June 2017. The service will run four times weekly, and increase to six times weekly in peak periods such as school holidays.

Four weekly return services will also run between Brisbane and the Whitsunday Coast from 23 March 2017.

On top of the new routes, Tigerair is also adding services to a number of Tigerair’s existing popular Queensland routes, including four additional weekly return services between Brisbane and Cairns, two additional return services between Sydney and Whitsunday Coast Airport and a weekly return service between Brisbane and Adelaide all commencing from late March 2017.

Brisbane Airport Corporation’s CEO and Managing Director, Julieanne Alroe, said the additional aircraft plus new routes are an “enormous investment” in the city, which will provide more choice, flexibility and competitive pricing.

“The importance of this investment, which will bring significant positive returns to our economy, cannot be over-estimated.”
