Qantas' Bali flights are here to stay

Qantas is so impressed by the demand for its seasonal flights to Bali that the carrier has decided to operate the service year-round.

Qantas is so impressed by the demand for its seasonal flights to Bali that the carrier has decided to operate the service year-round.

The carrier confirmed the decision this week after receiving a “fantastic response” to its summer service.

The Flying Kangaroo resumed its Sydney to Denpasar flights in 2015 after a seven-year hiatus. The peak service returned again earlier this month as part of a demand-led Asia Pacific expansion.

Initially scheduled to end mid-February, the carrier decided to extend them to year-round from 25 March. However, instead of operating daily, Sydney-Bali flights will fly four times weekly, Australian Aviation reported.

Qantas’ International Chief Executive, Gareth Evans, said the carrier’s decision to remain on the Bali route would not affect Jetstar’s services to Indonesia.

“That’s important for a destination which caters to different budgets and tastes,” Evans said.

“We’ve had a fantastic response to Qantas’ seasonal service, especially from our frequent flyers, so we felt the time was right to go year-round.”

In other Qantas news, the airline this month also launched its first direct service from Melbourne to Narita in Japan and confirmed its direct services to the UK would take off from 2018.
