Australian travellers, particularly those from smaller towns, finally have the opportunity to ask an airline to fly to their part of town.

Rex’s Manager of Network Strategy and Sales, Warrick Lodge, invited communities from North Queensland to contact the airline if they think it should fly there.

Why?

It’s all part of their North Queensland expansion, which started yesterday with new direct flights between Cairns and Bamaga.

“We invite the communities in the Cape region as well as elsewhere in North Queensland to contact us if they believe that they have a case for a viable air service.”

As part of the airline’s new North Queensland operations, it will operate five flights per week on the Cairns to Bamaga route, with morning services on Monday and Tuesday; and afternoon services on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

Mr Lodge said the airline is also planning to start flights to Mount Isa, which lost air service links late last year.

“The NPA service launched today is the start of a commitment by the Rex Group to bring safe, reliable and affordable air services to remote and regional communities who depend upon sustainable regional air services.”

“This is our way of recognising the significant trust placed in the company by the Queensland State Government through the recently awarded regulated routes.”

Commencing 25 May 2015, the airline will fly between between Cairns and Mount Isa, allowing business travellers from Cairns to spend a day in the city before returning home later in the evening.

Additionally, Mr Lodge said the airline will base three aircraft out of Cairns and is prepared to increase the fleet as new opportunities arise in the new financial year.

“The expansion of Rex services from Cairns on the back of the regulated routes of North Queensland has resulted in Rex investing heavily in infrastructural support in far North Queensland.”

With immediate effect, reservations for the new direct Rex services between Cairns to Mount Isa are available for sale.

So here’s your chance, where in North Queensland would you like to see Rex fly?
