In an Australian airline first, travellers can now keep an eye on their checked luggage across the Virgin Australia network as the in-app tool increases to include the carrier’s international routes to Asia, NZ and South Pacific destinations plus added tracking features.
Virgin Australia domestic and international passengers will also now receive additional tracking notifications when their luggage is ready to fly, loaded onto the aircraft and has arrived at the baggage carousel.
The new ‘loaded’ feature, confirming your bag has been loaded onto the aircraft, is not available with any other Australian airline, and uses push notifications via the Virgin Australia app.
The first-to-market tech, which launched on select domestic flights in May 2023, has been used approximately 1.3 million times by Aussie travellers with a 12 per cent increase in VA app downloads.
VA expanded the in-app bag tracking tool to two-thirds of its domestic network in late August 2023.
The baggage tracking expansion announcement is part of VA’s $400 million-plus investment in digital and customer experience initiatives, which includes newly launched websites, apps, reduced call-wait times and Rapid Rebook technology.
Virgin Australia Chief Customer & Digital Officer Paul Jones said: “By further enhancing our Australian-first baggage tracking technology to include all international services and additional notifications, we are giving guests the peace of mind to know where their baggage is at every step of the journey.”
