Virgin's new loyalty arrangements a plus for Velocity members

Virgin Australia and South African Airways have extended their airline partnership, with  a reciprocal frequent flyer agreement, which allows members to earn and redeem points across both airlines’ networks.

Virgin Australia and South African Airways have extended their airline partnership, with  a reciprocal frequent flyer agreement, which allows members to earn and redeem points across both airlines’ networks.

Commencing next year, Velocity members can earn Velocity Points and Status Credits on all South African Airways services and Voyager members can earn points and miles on Virgin Australia’s domestic, short-haul and long-haul flights.

Additionally, Velocity members can use their points to purchase reward seats on South African Airways flights and Voyager members can do the same across Virgin Australia’s network.

Velocity Frequent Flyer chief executive Neil Thompson said the new arrangement also gives both airlines’ members priority check-in, priority boarding and lounge access.

“We continue to find innovative ways to reward our members and extending the ability to utilise points on our growing international network is important to our most valued customers.”

Earlier this month, Virgin Australia announced a swap points system with Singapore Airlines, by allowing members to convert miles or points between the two loyalty schemes.

Velocity and KrisFlyer members are able to convert their points at a rate of 1.35 to one.

This means, for every 1.35 Velocity points, Virgin members can turn them into a single KrisFlyer mile and then use it to pay for flights or upgrades.
