Cringe or clever? Bonza unveils name of sixth aircraft

Shazza, Bazza, Sheila, meet Bruce… Bonza has revealed the official name of its sixth aircraft – and it’s a moniker the airline thinks will resonate with its flyers (if they don’t reject it): ‘Bruce’.

Tim Jordan, CEO of the low-cost carrier, expressed excitement about the name and new plane, highlighting Bruce’s significance in Australian culture.

“I feel every Aussie knows a Bruce and we’re proud to have our very own Bruce join Bonza’s fleet,” he said.

“Like his companions, our purple army of fans on social media helped name this aircraft with Bruce being one of the most requested names we’ve had.

“The name is apt because we’re also encouraging Aussies to get off the Bruce Highway and onto Bonza’s Bruce with some great deals to be had within Bonza’s network of 21 destinations.”

Bruce’s unveiling comes amid the carrier’s ambitious expansion plans, including a fourth base to be confirmed later this year and up to ten new aircraft joining the fleet.

Bruce will join the airline’s growing fleet alongside ‘Matilda,’ named in honour of the Matildas’ World Cup success, as both jets connect Aussies on unique Bonza routes nationwide.

“We are thrilled to welcome Bruce and Matilda to our growing fleet,” said Jordan.

“They join our other beloved aircraft – Shazza, Bazza, Sheila, and Malc. We will have more to say about our future fleet expansion when the time is right.”

In February, the low-cost carrier revealed it had recorded the best on-time arrivals performance in the country in January 2024 with flights touching down punctually 78.4 per cent of the time.

The airline also recently reflected on its first full year in the air.
