Four Aqua Expedition crew members are missing and “a few others injured after a “very serious accident” caused the line’s Aqua Amazon to blow up and sink over the weekend.
The ship was docked for a regular re-supply and re-stock when “an accident occurred that caused an explosion”, which ultimately lead the to sinking of the ship.
Aqua Expeditions’ Founder and CEO, Francesco Galli Zugaro, said no passengers were on board, but “some of the crew” were hurt during the incident and “four are declared missing”.
On social media, the cruise line said it was in “close contact with all the families of both the missing and injured”.
“The entire Aqua team is like a family,” the cruise line said.
“We are doing everything we can on all fronts to help those impacted by this terrible event.”
An investigation is ongoing and more information will be shared as it comes through.
“All efforts are being made to get a better understanding of the status of the missing crew.”
