Celebrity Cruises' new ship has a 'Magic Carpet' - it's a whole new world of cruising!

Ladies, grab your Aladdin and drag him onto the Magic Carpet, which you will literally be able to find on Celebrity Cruises' ship Celebrity Edge when she launches in December next year.

Ladies, grab your Aladdin and drag him onto the Magic Carpet, which you will literally be able to find on Celebrity Cruises’ ship Celebrity Edge when she launches in December next year.

The cruise line unveiled EXTENSIVE details of the new 2,918-guest vessel today, giving eager cruisers a good idea of what they can expect from the ship including its very large staterooms, new suites and the Magic Carpet.

Okay, I’ve mentioned it twice now – what the hell is a ‘Magic Carpet’? What’s it doing on a cruise ship? And is it just like Disney’s cheeky, yet highly perceptive rug?

While Celebrity Edge’s ‘Magic Carpet’ is part of a ‘whole new world’ of cruising, it’s less a flying carpet and more a hovering platform positioned off the side of the ship.

You won’t be able to miss it, because the platform is the size of a tennis court, it’s painted orange and it hangs over four decks. Check out the pic:

The ‘Magic Carpet’ will have several purposes including a specialty restaurant appropriately titled ‘Dinner on the Edge’; al fresco dining on deck five; it will act as a key component to the Destination Gateway – a luxury embarkation station; and it will be part of an open-air expansion of the main pool.

Which leads us to, rooms that literally touch the water.

Introducing ‘Edge Stateroom with Infinite Veranda‘, rooms that appear to put the balcony inside the room so that there’s a closer connection between guest and the ocean.

Edge Stateroom

The simple touch of a button gives guests open-air access to the sea, bringing the outside in and the inside out. With the touch of another button, guests can take complete control of their stateroom and personalise everything from lighting, shades, temperature and service – even choosing a setting to tuck them in or gently wake them.

The benefits of this design? It creates an extra 23 percent of space in cabins and 10 percent larger bathrooms (YAS!) compared to those on Solstice Class ships.

Luminae Restaurant

For guests who prefer a little more privacy onboard, Celebrity is introducing ‘The Retreat‘, which has been described as a ‘utopia’ and comes with a private pool, a personal butler service and access to the exclusive Suite Class restaurant Luminae The Retreat.

Other highlights of the new ship include the Iconic Suites situated above the ship’s bridge and feature two bedrooms, two bathrooms and 270-degree views of the ocean; Edge Villas, which offer views from two stories of windows, private plunge pools and direct walk-out access to The Retreat Sundeck.
