Royal Caribbean’s latest Icon Class mega-ship has completed her float-out ceremony, marking the first time Star of the Seas has entered the water in a major construction milestone and ahead of final outfitting stages and her August 2025 debut.
The traditional maritime float-out ceremony took place at the Meyer Turku shipyard in Turku, Finland, involving more than 348 million litres of water, four tugboats and a cannon shot.
RCI’s newest Icon Class ship, Star of the Seas will double the cruise line’s ‘vacation at sea’ options with seven-night island-hopping itineraries to the Caribbean and Bahamas, including Perfect Day at CocoCay.
Sailing from Port Canaveral, Florida, Star of the Seas will feature eight distinct neighbourhoods, such as the Surfside precinct designed for young families; plus an open-air Central Park spaced with more than 30,500 real plants.
Other amenities and attractions revealed include onboard thrills such as six of the fastest and tallest waterslides at Category 6 Waterpark – the first waterpark at sea, and a FlowRider surf simulator, mini golf, live bands and DJs.
Expect 40-plus ways to dine and drink, including the new Lincoln Park Supper Club, inspired by the jazz clubs of Prohibition-era Chicago; and the family-friendly Surfside Eatery buffet and on-the-go Surfside Bites.
Suites include the three-level family space with an in-suite slide, a cinema space, karaoke, two balconies and a private entrance to what’s billed as the ‘ultimate family neighbourhood’.
There’s also an adult-only area, The Hideaway, with beach club vibes and a suspended infinity pool.
