P&O has selected two Australian celebrities that ‘really embody the new look and feel of P&O Cruises’ to act as Godmothers its two new ships in a ‘modern way’.
Singer Jessica Mauboy and radio personality Kate Ritchie will bless Pacific Aria and Pacific Eden on 25 November when the two vessels sail into Sydney where they’ll meet Pacific Jewel, Pacific Pearl and Pacific Dawn for Australia’s first-ever five-ship rendezvous.
Unlike your traditional christening, the two godmothers will simultaneously break champagne on the ships’ bows as they sail either side of Harbour. While they’re doing this, the ladies will open their Twitter app to post the naming in 140 characters or less. It will then be shared to Facebook and Instagram via P&O Cruises’ platforms.
The celebration won’t end there.
Following the official naming, all five ships will berth in the Harbour – again the first time this has ever happened – where 25 artists, including Jessica Mauboy – will perform live concerts for guests onboard throughout the afternoon.
The ships will then sail from Sydney in the evening following a fireworks display for Sydneysiders at 8.45pm.
According to Carnival Australia’s CEO, Ann Sherry, it will be a ‘history-making day’ with P&O ticking off the first-ever social media christening and first five-ship meet in Sydney Harbour.
Following their big launch, the sisters and their three fleet mates, will split and head off in opposite directions for their inaugural cruises from Australia.
