Apple of my Isle: Tassie tourists are spending more and staying longer

Tourism Tasmania is celebrating visitor spend exceeding $3 billion for the first time to record the state’s highest annual spend on record. Visitors to Tassie for the year up to October 2022 are also spending more per trip and per night and staying longer.

Tourism Tasmania’s yearly results to October 2022 have also risen 23 per cent against 2019 numbers, highlighting the Apple Isle’s ongoing tourism recovery.

The Tasmanian Visitor Survey showed the state achieved a total visitor spend of $3.122 billion against 2019 ($2.54 billion).

Visitors to Tassie are also spending more per trip. The average spend per visitor was $2,952, up a whopping 56 per cent from the year ending October 2019.

The average visitor spend per night also increased to $300, up 27 per cent from the 12 months to October 2019.

Tourism Tasmania recorded just over one million visitors (1.058 million) to the state for the year ending October 2022. This represents 78 per cent of pre-pandemic numbers.

These visitors stayed 10.4 million nights in total in the state with an average length of stay of 9.8 nights, almost two nights longer than 2019.
