Australia has clinched the top spot for visitors to New Caledonia according to the latest statistics released by New Caledonia Tourism*

The monthly tourism figures for June reported a 41.2 per cent increase on the same time last year, bringing the total up to over 9,000 YTD (January to June) and an overall increase of 39.6 per cent.

This growth spurt has cement Australia as the lead market for New Caledonia with a 27.9 per cent share over France, Japan and New Zealand.

New Caledonia Tourism’s sales and marketing director, Caroline Brunel, said it is great to see so many Aussies embracing and exploring their closest Pacific neighbour.

“This is excellent growth and shows that  our in-market promotions are having a direct effect on visitor numbers ; hopefully this success will continue following the new ‘Hello Neighbour’ campaign launched earlier this month”

It also seems Aussies aren’t just popping by too; they’re making the most of their New Caledonia experience, averaging 10.5 nights on the island paradise with many choosing to explore the regions outside of the popular capital, Noumea.

New Caledonia Tourism has attributed this rise to strong visible campaigns in the market, which have differentiated New Caledonia from its competitors as a diverse and distinctive destination within easy reach of Australia. Campaigns included collaborations with Aircalin, key wholesalers and online travel agents in the market in order to further strengthen the profile of New Caledonia and drive demand.

“New Caledonia is going from strength to strength and we are on track to smash the records this year,” Ms Brunel said.

With Noumea only two hours from Brisbane, under three hours from Sydney and less than four hours from Melbourne, New Caledonia is fast becoming a destination where travellers can have it all. From soft adventure, exceptional cuisine, unique culture, luxury accommodation and natural wonders, including the UNESCO World Heritage lagoon, New Caledonia is an all-encompassing experience.
