Australia & key markets forecast to drive double-digit Canada tourism growth through to 2035

Australia was one of the leaders of the Canada tourism charge in 2025 as overseas market growth doubled the annual pace of USA visitation. The latest Canada tourism outlook forecasts an increase of almost 10 per cent or up to $30 billion per year through to 2035.

Destination Canada’s Canadian Tourism Outlook 2026–2035 report shows tourism is outpacing the wider economy after a record 2025 summer with visitor spend expected to increase by six per cent this year, ahead of the 5.4 per cent projected previously.

Australia is a key, high-value market for Canada, contributing to an overall CAD$133 billion (around AUD$136 billion) in visitor spend in 2025 with revenue expected to reach CAD$177 billion (around AUD$181 billion) by 2030.

The Canada tourism outlook highlights the continued importance of the travel trade with 78 per cent of Australians using a travel advisor when booking trips to Canada.

Demand is also shifting towards nature-based and experience-led travel, aligning with Canada’s core strengths as a responsible tourism leader and creating strong selling points for immersive itineraries.

The USA remains Canada’s biggest market, accounting for around 78 per cent of international visitors, yet 5.3 per cent annual growth is predicted, compared to Australia, China, France, Germany, Japan, Mexico, South Korea and the UK at 9.8 per cent.

Overseas visitors are helping balance demand across seasons and regions, boosting local economies and strengthening resilience with stronger long-term growth in the Canada tourism outlook.

Destination Canada President & CEO Marsha Walden said Canada’s global reputation for stability and openness is a powerful competitive advantage, giving travellers confidence and reinforcing its position as a welcoming destination of choice.

“Tourism is a high-growth export with fast returns. The Canadian Tourism Outlook shows demand is accelerating, and the opportunity for Canada is even greater if we grow global market share and continue attracting more international demand,” she said.
