Countries like Australia placed a ‘reconsider your need to travel’ advice on the Himalayan nation after it was hit by a 6.7 magnitude quake in April that killed over 6,000 people.

While the Nepalese government recognised an initial need to introduce travel warnings, it now says most parts of the country are safe and ready for tourism, The Australian reported.

According to Tourism Minister Kripasur Sherpa only around 15 percent of the country has been affected by the quake ‘while the rest is fine’.

So far Australia along with governments in the US, Britain, Switzerland, New Zealand, Australia and Italy have removed or lowered their advisory, while other European countries are maintaining a high travel warning.

Sherpa said this is deterring travellers for visiting, which could cause a strain on the country’s finances.

Nepal receives nearly 800,000 tourists a year. This figure has dropped by 40 percent this year.

Tourism is a key financial contributor to the destination, which is famous for its high mountains such as Mount Everest.

Meanwhile, tour operators such as Intrepid are doing everything possible to encourage travellers to visit Nepal during the upcoming season.

The adventure company has offered to donate all profits made on the next season to charities, which will go towards rebuilding devastated areas.
