PITCH A TENT: Glamping has arrived in NYC & it has the BEST view of Lady Liberty

You could live it up in the Mandarin Oriental, live like a local in an Airbnb rental, reenact Home Alone 2 at the Plaza Hotel and follow J-Lo's Maid in Manhattan footsteps at the Roosevelt.

You could live it up in the Mandarin Oriental, live like a local in an Airbnb rental, reenact Home Alone 2 at the Plaza Hotel and follow J-Lo’s Maid in Manhattan footsteps at the Roosevelt.

OR you could try something COMPLETELY new and different by glamping in New York City.

The city may never sleep, but its visitors eventually do, and it’s catering to those who prefer an experiential overnight stay (like Michelle Obama ?) with New York City’s first glamping experience on Governor’s Island.

Speaking to media in Sydney this month, NYC & Company’s Senior VP of Global Communications, Chris Heywood, said the tenting experience launched earlier this year by The Collective Retreats to give travellers the option of sleeping in a completely secure and luxurious outdoor setting only eight minutes ferry ride from Lower Manhattan.

Visitors have access to electricity, 1,000-1,500 thread-count linens, plush Turkish towels and (depending on their style of tent) complimentary daily breakfast and campfire s’mores kit.

Additionally, Collective Retreat’s location on Governor’s Island provides visitors with the best views of New York City’s skyline and places them on the closest land facing the Statue of Liberty – that’s an extraordinary location for Instagram pics.

“The Governor’s Island tents really are bringing a whole new experience to New York City.”

Chris Heywood, NYC & Company Senior VP of Global Communications

For travellers who prefer a more traditional form of accommodation, New York City has several new properties opening throughout 2018, including the 66-room Mr C Seaport next to the Seaport District. The boutique hotel is the first for the Cipriani family and comes with views of the nearby East River, Brooklyn Bridge, and the New York skyline.

Also new to the Big Apple in October 2018 will be the UK’s The Hoxton Hotel. The brand is expanding from Paris and London to Williamsburg with 175 rooms, three restaurants and a rooftop bar.
