TERRIBLE tourists stone a caged kangaroo to death

You don’t need to be a member of PETA or an animal rights activist to feel overwhelmed with frustration when an innocent kangaroo is essentially stoned to death by a group of inconsiderate tourists.

Can you imagine being woken from a deep rest by a group of idiots throwing sharp stones in your direction? That’s exactly what happened to a 12-year-old kangaroo sleeping in her cage at a Chinese zoo earlier this month.

According to the animal’s breeder, a group of tourists pelted objects in the marsupial’s direction in a bid to wake her and make her ‘hop’, but instead struck her foot, which caused mass bleeding and led to her untimely death.

Despite signage discouraging tourists from such careless behaviour, the breeder said visitors continue to resort to cruel tactics in the hopes of making animals “jump around”.

In fact, ‘animal stoning’ occurs so frequently, that only a few days after the kangaroo’s passing, a five-year-old marsupial almost met the same fate when a brick was flung into his cage, Nine News reported.

The breeder said CCTV footage is set up to capture any inappropriate activity, however, they point towards enclosures, not viewing areas, which means offenders usually go unidentified.

He continued, saying that the zoo is seeking additional funds to install more cameras, but in the meantime, the zoo will reduce the number of kangaroos visible in the enclosure to three.
