The UAE city won the title for the third consecutive year at the 2015 World Travel Awards Grand Final, beating 16 other ideal travel locations including Australia’s very own Sydney, New Zealand’s Queenstown and New York.

It was the destination’s fifth time receiving the award in 19 years, with past wins in 2014, 2013, 2008 and 2004.

Dubai’s local marketing team said the award acknowledged Dubai’s appeal as a tourist destination that pushes boundaries and offers visitors a world-class experience from the moment they arrive.

“Visitors can enjoy golden beaches, extraordinary shopping, dining and spectacular nightlife.”

“The city is also famed for its unique experiences, offering visitors activities from indoor skiing, to shark diving in a shopping centre, desert camel rides and the chance to see the world’s tallest tower.”

Other destinations also in the finals were Cape Town, South Africa; Jamaica; Las Vegas; London; Malaysia; Maldives; Marrakech, Morocco; Quito, Ecuador; Rio de Janiero, Brazil; Saint-Petersburg, Russia; Seychelles; and Yorkshire, England.

Meanwhile across the UAE, Abu Dhabi’s carrier, Etihad, took out the award for ‘World’s Leading Airline’, beating Qantas, Air New Zealand, British Airways and more.

Royal Caribbean was the ‘World’s Leading Cruise Line’, while the La Mamounia, Marrakech in Morroco won for ‘World’s Leading Hotel’.
