Beam us up! Vivid Sydney gets set to trip the light fantastic in 2024

Returning with another stellar instalment of the Southern Hemisphere’s largest multi-artform festival in 2024, Vivid Sydney has unveiled this year’s standout program, running from 24 May to 15 June and staged across multiple sites.

Returning with another stellar instalment of the Southern Hemisphere’s largest multi-artform festival in 2024, Vivid Sydney has unveiled this year’s standout program, running from 24 May to 15 June and staged across multiple sites.

Across 23 nights, the 14th Vivid Sydney will explore this year’s theme of ‘Humanity’ across the pillars of Light, Music, Ideas and Food.  

Last year’s event achieved the festival’s biggest attendance and largest visitor expenditure on record with 3.48 million-plus attendees generating more than $206 million in total spend.

In 2024, Sydney will be transformed with light installations and 3D projections from Circular Quay to The Goods Line, genre-spanning music performances and creative showcases, a Vivid Ideas program designed to open minds and a mouth-watering Vivid Food program.

This year’s festival highlights include 40km-long laser beams projected from Sydney Tower, music headliners Budjerah, Mos Def and Air and 2023 Archibald Prize winner Julia Gutman to transform Sydney Opera House for the Lighting of the Sails.

Other immersive artworks and installations feature the likes of iconic Australian artist and musician Reg Mombassa, Chinese-Australian contemporary artist Guan Wei, bird portrait photographer and videographer Leila Jeffreys and US artist Yvette Mattern.

Additional music highlights include Underworld, Skye Ferreira, Tia Gostelow, Thelma Plum and Mallrat.

Vivid Sydney Festival Director Gill Minervini said this year’s festival looks at how creativity fuels our interconnected world.

“Humanity is at the core of everything we do, and this year Vivid Sydney is diving deep into what makes us uniquely human,” Ms Minervini said.

Vivid Sydney festival locations include Circular Quay, Sydney Opera House, The Rocks, State Library of New South Wales, Walsh Bay, Walsh Bay Arts Precinct, Barangaroo, Darling Harbour, University of Technology Sydney, The Goods Line, Royal Botanic Garden Sydney, Carriageworks and more.
