Australia’s tourism leaders sure hope you do, and latest figures suggest that a fair few of his fans would definitely jump at the chance at travelling in his footsteps.

Tourism Australia is banking on the power of the celebrity to boost visitor numbers to the country, by inviting Marvel actor Chris Hemsworth to explore parts of the country and document his trip to his millions of social media followers.

The announcement comes less than a month after the bureau confirmed its Hemsworth-voiced marketing campaign was one of its most successful videos to-date, with over 2.2 million Youtube views.

To build on the Hemsworth-hype, the part-time superhero, his wife Elsa and their two adorable children took a trip to Uluru, the Whitsundays, Great Barrier Reef and the Kimberley, during which several photos and videos were recorded and distributed to over 10 million people on social media.

The publicised trip is expected to generate “huge exposure” for Australia while also showcase first-hand “what it feels like to immerse yourself fully in an Australian holiday”, according to Tourism Australia Managing Director, John O’Sullivan.

“The huge profile which Chris enjoys internationally will ensure that these amazing Australian destinations, tourism product and experiences are showcased to millions.”

The Hemsworths began their journey at Uluru and Kata-Tjuta National Park, experiencing the heart of Australia for the first time, staying at Sails in the Desert and visiting the sacred sites of Kuniya Pitti, walking amongst Bruce Munro’s Field of Light art installation and enjoying a sunrise meeting with the local Anangu people.

They then travelled into the Kimberley region of Western Australia, staying at the Berkeley River Lodge, enjoying barramundi fishing, a private river cruise to Casuarina Falls, swimming in the waterholes of Berkeley Creek, a 4WD beach drive and an outback helicopter trip to secluded billabongs.

The family then spent five nights in the Whitsundays at One&Only Hayman Island, from where Chris went scuba diving for the first time, sunset sailing, beach water sports and boats excursions to nearby island attractions such as Langford Island and Whitehaven Beach.

Hemsworth said he was surprised by the diversity of the country from “rich desert landscapes to stunning gorges and remote waterholes of the Kimberley”.

“Australia really does have it all.”

The power of the celebrity is running strong in tourism at the moment, with airlines and tourism bureaus teaming up with famous faces to promote their products.

Among them is Etihad, which continues to build on its relationship with Nicole Kidman, while airlines like Turkish Airlines and All Nippon Airways have jumped on pop culture to boost ticket sales.
