Fiji Airways’ inaugural Nadi-Dallas-Fort Worth service has touched down in Texas, signalling the start of a new era in connectivity for the carrier.
By launching its longest-ever service and first foray into the North American interior, Fiji Airways significantly boosts its global footprint and also gives Australian travellers a new way to fly to the US.
Operating three times per week on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, Fiji Airways will use its A350-900 XWB aircraft on the approximately 13-hour route, with seating for 334 customers, including 33 lie-flat, business class seats.
Upon arrival at DFW, one of the world’s most connected airports, the FJ aircraft was greeted with a water gun salute.
Fiji Airways now flies directly to five ports in North America, with DFW joining Los Angeles, San Francisco, Honolulu and Vancouver. Its 26th international route precedes the launch of its 27th route to Cairns in April next year.
Fiji Airways has codeshare and interline partnerships with American Airlines, Alaska Airlines, JetBlue, Porter Airlines, among other carriers, and will adopt American’s AAdvantage loyalty program next year as well as earn full oneworld membership from 31 March 2025.
FJ is marking the launch of the new service with return flights from Australia (via Nadi) to DFW from AU$1,599 until 17 December 2024.
Fiji Airways CEO and Managing Director Andre Viljoen flagged the opportunities the new service gives US-bound Aussies.
“With the launch of this new route, Fiji Airways is significantly enhancing connectivity across North America, offering Australians more convenient travel options with seamless connections from Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Canberra, Adelaide and Cairns starting next April,” he remarked.
“This expansion not only opens doors for Australian travellers but also strengthens the inbound market, bringing more visitors from Texas and beyond to experience the beauty of Fiji and Australia.
“With over 2,000 additional seats per week added to our network, we’re excited to see strong demand already building in both directions.”
DFW CEO Sean Donohue also lauded the new service.
“DFW is excited to add the beautiful islands of Fiji to our growing portfolio of international destinations, bringing North Texas nonstop access to a tropical paradise and connecting Nadi with DFW’s network of more than 250 destinations around the world,” he stated.
Nice kit
Meanwhile, Fiji Airways has revealed its sleek new amenity kits for business class passengers, marking the first redesign of the product since 2012.
Developed with Samsonite and Formia, the kits feature two Fijian-inspired designs with vegan leather details and water-repellent twill fabric. Practical touches include a strap for slipping over luggage handles.
Inside, passengers will find upgraded travel essentials like larger eye masks, bamboo toothbrushes, and Teaology’s vegan body lotion. Designed for reuse, the kits reduce plastic use and focus on sustainability.
Fiji Airways says the refreshed kits elevate comfort and style, adding another layer of luxury to its long-haul flights.
Earlier this year, FJ placed 14th in the blue ribbon “World’s Top Airline” category at the World Airline Awards. It was also named “Best Airline in Australia/Pacific”.
