High roller: Australia’s tallest hotel has just opened in Melbourne …

The Ritz Carlton brand has officially returned to Australia’s east coast, with the opening of the Ritz Carlton, Melbourne.

The Ritz Carlton brand has officially returned to Australia’s east coast, with the opening of the Ritz Carlton, Melbourne.

If you look up at this hotel from street level, you might just jar your neck, as aside from being Australia’s newest luxury accommodation property, it has also become the tallest hotel in Australia.

Part of Marriott Bonvoy’s portfolio of hotel brands, the hotel is located on the western edge of the Melbourne CBD.

Guests enter the property through the ground-level gallery before being whisked up to the 80th-floor Sky Lobby Reception.

Here, the hotel offers visitors uninterrupted views across Melbourne and beyond through windows that span the entire level. The lobby also features a nightly “cultural soundscape” that brings to life the city’s story through rhythm, beats and music.

What awaits guests?

The hotel’s 257 guest rooms feature natural elegance highlighted by decorative hand-made glass panels, custom light fixtures and touches of gold. But the emphasis here is well and truly on the views.

Club Level guests also have access to the signature Ritz-Carlton Club, while those lucky enough to stay in the Ritz-Carlton Suite, one of the largest in the city, will enjoy separate living and dining rooms, a walk-through wardrobe, in-room sauna, and private pantry, among other luxuries.

The hotel features three dining experiences, including the signature Atria restaurant, cocktail bar Cameo, and the Ritz-Carlton Lobby Lounge, which offers a high tea experience, relaxed lunches and dinners, and receptions.

Elsewhere, there’s the Ritz-Carlton Spa with its six treatment rooms, and also over 2,500 square metres of event space.

In its public spaces, the hotel celebrates all things Melbourne, through visuals that chronicle the city’s indigenous story, Victorian-era gold rush, European heritage and fabled laneways.

“I am excited to be opening our doors, welcoming guests and locals alike to experience Melbourne through a new and unique lens,” The Ritz-Carlton, Melbourne General Manager Antony Page said.

Marriott International President of Luxury Tina Edmundson said the group was “thrilled to bring The Ritz-Carlton brand to Melbourne, and to open our second hotel in Australia”.

“With its destination-driven design inspired by the city’s past and present, combined with the finest amenities, exciting culinary offerings and highly personalized service, The Ritz-Carlton, Melbourne exemplifies our commitment to delivering unparalleled experiences and creating meaningful memories in inspiring cities, the world over,” she remarked.
