Delta Air Lines will offer fast, free onboard Wi-Fi for its SkyMiles members, making it the first US global carrier to bring complimentary connectivity to market. It means passengers flying Delta will enjoy free online access from take-off to touchdown.

International travellers will have to wait. The rollout will commence from 1 February across Delta’s domestic mainline routes first with all aircraft to be equipped with free Wi-Fi by the end of 2024.

The airline will also be the first US global carrier to offer this complimentary service as a core customer experience.

Wi-Fi will be available on more than 700 Viasat-equipped aircraft by the end of 2023 in partnership with US-based T-Mobile.

This year, Delta will also introduce personalised mobile platform Delta Sync, powered by free Wi-Fi to deliver exclusive inflight content and consumer partnerships for SkyMiles members similar to a home smart TV experience.

“At work, at home and everywhere in-between, connectivity is essential to daily life. Your journey on Delta should be no different,” Delta CEO Ed Bastian said at CES 2023 in Las Vegas today.

“Our vision has long been to deliver an experience at 30,000 feet that feels similar to what our customers have available on the ground.”

Delta Sync will create a tailored journey from home to destination using customers’ individual preferences.

The free SkyMiles program will unlock Delta Sync for seamless connections, including free Wi-Fi and exclusive offers, entertainment and access.

Delta Air Lines increased its weekly SYD–LAX service to 10 flights per week in December.
