From rock ‘n’ roll festivals to boulder-strewn national parks, Greater Palm Springs is the perfect place to get adventurous or just chill out.

It’s hot in Greater Palm Springs. The summers are hot, the winters are warm and now it is one of the hottest travel destinations in the US. Each year, the area has the international spotlight turned on it as desert partygoers head to Coachella but the Greater Palm Springs area is a year-round destination with plenty of things to do when the music festival packs up.

You can be inspired by Joshua Tree National Park, take in the scenery from the aerial tramway or take a hike in the desert.

Here is the must-do list when you visit Greater Palm Springs:

Have a sky-high adventure

The Palm Springs Aerial Tramway has the world’s largest rotating tramcars, which carry visitors from the Valley Station to the Mountain Station – at an elevation 2,595 metres – past the incredible scenery of the Chino Canyon cliffs.

When you head to Mountain Station you can hit up restaurants, an observation deck and a natural history museum.

Take a Desert Adventures Red Jeep Tour

Go off-road in Joshua Tree National Park, the bleakly beautiful landscape that has inspired musicians from Gram Parsons to U2. Let a local guide take you around Joshua Tree National Park where you can tour the park’s highlights and learn about how this unique landscape was formed. Enjoy a guided hike to Hidden Valley, offering visitors jaw-dropping scenes of incredible rock formations and amazing photo opportunities. Afterwards, head to Key’s View Overlook, where you can see the park from 1.5km elevation. On a clear day, you may even be lucky enough to see all the way to Mexico!

Chill out at a spa

The Greater Palm Springs area is also known for its unique spa experiences where you can relax in a natural hot water spa, meditate with a backdrop of vertiginous mountains, or do yoga in the desert.

There are a host of luxury resorts in Greater Palm Springs that offer massages and wellness weekends with everything you need to leave the stress of the city behind.

Explore the desert landscapes

Greater Palms Springs is truly an oasis in the desert. The area’s personality, its attractions and its history are all linked to this sparsely beautiful landscape. Going to Greater Palm Springs and not going to the desert is like going to Malibu and skipping the beach.

While exploring this amazing part of California’s Desert Region, you have your choice of hiking, biking, horseback riding, and more. You can even go stargazing, for some of the brightest stars you may ever see.
