What's driving up Amadeus' business?

Amadeus' business continues to move from one level to the next right alongside its profits, which increased by 14.2 percent during the first half of the year.

Amadeus’ business continues to move from one level to the next right alongside its profits, which increased by 14.2 percent during the first half of the year.

The company’s latest financial report shows that for the six months ending 30 June 2015, adjusted profits for the period grew 10.3 percent to €419.6 million.

This was driven by an increase in revenue of 14.2 percent, to €1,976.8 million, and EBITDA growth of 10.8 percent, to €778.8 million.

President and CEO, Luis Maroto, attributed the increase to a combination of market share expansion, which expanded by 1.9 percentage points to 42.2 percent; and growth in its business.

Over the last year, Amadeus has been a busy little bee rolling out new initiatives and introducing new partnerships.

Among the changes to the business was the introduction of a more mobile GDS system.

Among the new initiatives is the new web-based booking platform, which makes researching and booking holidays more mobile for agents.

Amadeus also announced plans to roll out its very own ‘cloud’ plus it entered an agreement to acquire, Navitaire, giving the tech company access to more budget airline fares.

Following that, Amadeus announced plans to acquire Netherlands-based Itesso BV, a provider of cloud-native property management systems (PMS) for hotels.

New agreements have also allowed the company to grow.

“We look forward with confidence to the remainder of the year.”

Another financial highlight for the first half of the year included a rise in air travel agency bookings of 10 percent to $265.9 million.

This was mostly due to a market share gain of 1.9 p.p. in global air travel agency bookings.

This in turn was due in large part to the migration of the travel agencies previously connected to Topas in South Korea, but also supported by continued market share gains in North America.
