Travellers Choice network grows around SA

Travellers Choice continues its rapid expansion in South Australia, as a well established retail agency in the historic seaport of Whyalla joins the group's network.

Travellers Choice continues its rapid expansion in South Australia, as a well established retail agency in the historic seaport of Whyalla joins the group’s network.

Also known as the ‘Steel City’, Whyalla is the third most populous city in South Australia, following Adelaide and Mount Gambier.

Although originally known for its ship-building heritage – in the travel industry it will now be popular for being the seventh regional city in South Australia to have a store join Travellers Choice in the last 12 months. Other stores to join the group’s network were located in Ceduna, Roxby Downs, Naracoorte, Port Lincoln, Mount Gambier and Beachport.

Travellers Choice believes that with the addition of the new store, which was once established as an Ansett Airlines office, its presence in regional South Australia is now unrivalled.

Don Milne the owner of Whyalla Travel & Cruise

Don Milne the owner of Whyalla Travel & Cruise decides to join the Travellers Choice network.

Whyalla Travel & Cruise is owned by Don Milne, who took over the store in 1986. Milne said he chose to align with Travellers Choice because he wanted the freedom to operate as a genuinely independent agent, while benefiting from being part of a national network.

He said he was also attracted to Travellers Choice’s ‘lean head office’ and that as a member shareholder he now has a share in the group’s profits.

“It’s been a seamless transition into the group and I have only one regret – not joining earlier.”

Speaking on Travellers Choice’s expansion in South Australia, Andrea AJ Moore said the company’s business model resonates strongly with travel retailers based in regional centres.

She explained that the group understands the relationship between regional towns and cities with their local communities.

“Our job is to help them drive business through the door by supporting local marketing initiatives, rather than generic promotions.”
