Flight Centre rolls out interest-free travel loans

Feeling those pangs of anxiety thump against your chest as your boss sends through another WOT (waste of time) email on the importance of team bonding?

Feeling those pangs of anxiety thump against your chest as your boss sends through another WOT (waste of time) email on the importance of team bonding?

Are you borderline about to lose your sh#t at annoying colleagues who insist on always being right or stealing your homemade sandwiches from the fridge (even after labelling it FYI)?

If you’re experiencing any of the above it means you’re probably long overdue for a holiday (or maybe a one-on-one with a psychologist), but if you haven’t booked it yet then that likely means you’re financially not ready to set off.

Except Flight Centre may have found a way to get you on that holiday without stressing about the cash.

The travel group has teamed up with FlexiGroup Ltd to offer approved customers interest free finance.

It’s like taking out a loan but instead of using it for a house or a car, you’re booking a getaway (which is way cooler right).

The company is the latest to offer its customers more financial flexibility. For example, earlier this year, STA introduced a lay-by system, while Escape Travel has a similar system in place that lets travellers receive interest free loans for up to 12 months.

Interest-free finance will be made available through FlexiGroup’s subsidiary, Lombard Finance Pty Limited, on travel purchases across Flight Centre’s travel brands such as Flight Centre, Travel Associates, Cruiseabout, Student Flights and Escape Travel.

Flight Centre believes the new arrangement could more than double the Group’s business revenue and profitability because it creates opportunities for tavellers to book and pay for it later.

“The development and launch of this new customer offer has been driven by consumer demand across our other brands as well as Flight Centre’s desire to deliver the best possible travel experience and payment flexibility to its customers.”

Mike Snyman, Flight Centre Australia Chief Financial Officer

Although the specifics, like the time period for interest free finance, are yet to be revealed, FlexiGroup’s CEO Symon Brewis-Weston said it’s a “truly unique and beneficial payment option” for Fight Centre customers.
