The 15th of August 2020 marks the first anniversary of Scenic Eclipse’s maiden voyage which departed from Reykjavik, Iceland to great fanfare.

After being christened in New York city by godmother, Dame Helen Mirren in September 2019, Scenic Eclipse has since explored the world from the Arctic to the Antarctic polar regions.

Speaking about the historic milestone, Anthony Laver, Group General Manager, Australasia said:

“Our valued guests have enjoyed unforgettable experiences with the expert Discovery Team, embarking on exquisite handcrafted voyages through the bustling cosmopolitan cities and charming townships of North America, the ancient wonders of South America and to the pristine wilderness of Antarctica, South Georgia and the Falkland Islands.

“During the very first Antarctic voyage, we managed to get the ship down to the ice sheet near Cockburn Island, deep in the Weddell Sea. This was only possible due to the ability of Scenic Eclipse. We were the first ship of the season to get so far south, and we even managed to get the ship ‘parked’ alongside the ice to allow our guests to walk on the sea ice. The absolute highlight was, of course, when several Emperor Penguins arrived and proceeded to spend several hours with our guests.”

Speaking about Scenic Eclipse’s second season, Mr Laver says “with plans progressing to make the second season even more exclusive for our guests and the start of construction on the second Scenic Eclipse ship, we look forward to welcoming guests back on board, as we continue to set the benchmark in luxury ocean cruising.”

In the past year since launch, Scenic Eclipse has taken guests to more than 20 countries across four continents and three oceans, with 290 helicopter flights and more than 200 underwater journeys’ taken in Scenic Eclipse’s onboard submarine.
