Qantas reveals what we watched, ate & tuned into most in the air in 2024

Qantas has shared just how Aussies spent their time inflight and in lounges last year and it’s no surprise that some homegrown faves and influences made it into our top movies and TV shows, snacks and drinks and even audio options.

After the ‘Barbenheimer’ culture phenomenon of July 2023, Australian travellers were keen to tune into the two blockbusters on board Qantas flights last year as well.

Oppenheimer edged out Barbie to claim the title of the most-watched inflight movie in 2024. Number two on the list was Deadpool & Wolverine, featuring Aussie Hugh Jackman.

Starring our own Margot Robbie, Barbie was still in the top 10 flicks however, The Fall Guy and Anyone But You, which were both filmed in iconic Sydney locations, ranked higher for Aussies.

Young flyers propelled Aussie fave and global hit Bluey to the number one most-watched kids’ entertainment program for the second consecutive year.

Aussie author Sally Hepworth’s Darling Girls snagged the most popular audiobook in 2024, while other most-watched local TV programming included Five Bedrooms, Top Gear Australia as the most popular reality show and National Geographic’s Drain the Oceans as the top doco.

Touching down in Australia in February 2024 during her global Eras Tour, Taylor Swift inspired Qantas passengers to listen to 500,000 hours of her music – the equivalent of 35,700 flights between Sydney and LA.

When it comes to inflight snacks and drinks, we collectively ate six million Lindt balls and one million Weis bars and consumed 1.8 million beers, 2.5 million bottles of red wine and 1.7 million bottles of white wine across domestic and international networks.

On the ground, Qantas Lounges worldwide reported that patrons snacked on more than 12,000kg of liquorice allsorts, drank more than 200,000 glasses of Champagne, ate 60,000-plus plates of Neil Perry’s signature salt and pepper squid and enjoyed around 130,000 Qantas Signature Pavlovas.
