Incoming low-cost carrier Bonza’s second aircraft ‘Bazza’ touched down yesterday at the Sunshine Coast Airport, with a third Boeing 737-MAX on order to follow soon (Name TBC).
Travelling from Nadi, the Boeing 737 MAX aircraft under registration VH-UIK arrived at Sunshine Coast Airport at 9:20 am.
Announcing Bazza’s arrival, Carly Povey, Chief Commercial Officer at Bonza, said, “We are thrilled to welcome Bazza to Bonza’s backyard – Sunshine Coast Airport.
“He will join Shazza as the second aircraft in our fleet. We thank Sunshine Coast Airport for their ongoing support as a true extension to the Bonza team of legends.”
The million-dollar question, though, still remains … When will Bonza actually take off?
At this stage, Bonza is still waiting to gain its Air Operator Certificate (AOC) to get going fully after plans were pushed back from a proposed launch last month.
As for the third aircraft name? There are, as yet, no signs of what the third 737-MAX will be christened, but there’s no doubt it’ll be named in true blue Aussie fashion based on feedback from Australians living in the regions it plans to service.
Sourced from hundreds of suggestions and voted on by the Bonza Local Local Legends, aka the airline’s ambassadors, COO Carly Povey said ‘Shazza’ was the most popular moniker, with ‘Bazza’ as the runner-up nickname.

“Our Bonza Local Legends are the eyes and ears of Bonza in the communities where we’ll fly to, and Shazza was their clear favourite,” Ms Povey said.
Both Shazza and Bazza are currently having their interiors Bonza-ified, including obligatory splashes of purple as per the company colours seen across everything from uniforms to aircraft livery.
The airline is also progressing with in-flight and cabin crew training schools, finalising its all-Aussie menu and stress testing the Fly Bonza app, which will be the only place other than through local travel advisors where customers can book flights.
Australia’s newest airline Bonza also just launched a dedicated travel agent portal, welcoming advisors and trade partners to register online as the fledgling company gears up to start selling its first flights.
With all this investment behind them, surely the launch can’t be far away now?
